If your garden fence panels are mismatched, odd-coloured and starting to look like they’ve seen better days, now is the perfect time to choose new ones and give your garden a fresh look and feel this summer.
With that in mind, we’ve combined three things you should consider when choosing your ideal fence…
- Decide what the purpose of your new fence will be. Do you want more privacy from the neighbours? Are you wanting to reduce the noise levels in your garden, or do you simply want a more attractive fenced area? You can also use fencing to create separate areas within a garden or help reduce the impact of wind. Different style fence panels serve different purposes so it is crucial to think about what you are trying to achieve before anything else;
- Consider how the fence is going to be constructed. Fence posts are available in concrete, lightweight concrete and timber which can either be rough-sawn or smooth planed. Ideally, posts should be concreted into a 60cm / 2ft deep hole dug into the ground so the posts should be 2ft longer than the desired fence panel is tall. Timber posts may be chosen for their aesthetics but will eventually rot unlike concrete posts which can last for many decades.
- Consider the appearance of your new fence as you want it to enhance the garden.
